Intro
This video covers hydraulics and pneumatics: sizing a hydraulic cylinder, a pneumatic cylinder, and vacuum cups.
Hydraulic cylinder
Open Hydraulics and pneumatics in the main menu. For a hydraulic cylinder, enter the bore, the rod diameter and the stroke. Then the system pressure and the pump flow. You get the push and pull force, the extend and retract speeds, the oil volume and the pump power. The rod is also checked for buckling with Euler. Choose the mounting, the length between the pins, and the load to lift. If the safety factor is too low, the result tells you.
Pneumatic cylinder
For a pneumatic cylinder, choose a standard bore to ISO 15552, single or double acting, the stroke and the working pressure. Enter the load and the motion. The calculator shows the usable force, the load ratio, and the free air consumption for your cycle rate.
Vacuum cups
For vacuum cups, enter the mass of the part, the acceleration and the friction, then choose the load case. Then the vacuum level, the number of cups and their diameter. You see at once whether the cups can hold the part, and the minimum cup diameter you need.
